12 Types and Functions of Lenses in Photography

Talking about photography is definitely not separated with the lens. On this occasion we will try to discuss about the function and type of lens in photography. The lens is part of the camera, especially DSLR cameras. In general there are 12 camera parts as below; the first is the Body, Lens, Shutter Button, View Finder, LCD Screen, Battery, Button on / off, Dial Mode, Main Dial, Lens Release Button, Menu Button and Built-in Flash. The lens functions to focus the reflection of light from an object so that it can be precisely captured by the sensor on the camera. In principle, the lens on the camera functions the same as the function of the lens on the eye. This role is very important because with it can produce sharp images.

1. Camera built-in kit lens

This lens is made from a material that is not too expensive, so the price is also not too expensive to be sold as a starter kit with a camera body and other equipment. Usually this kit lens produces photos that are not too sharp and clear, but still reliable.

2. Zoom lens

A zoom lens is a lens whose focal length might be modified. One of the most famous zoom lenses is the kit lens. You do not need to replace the lens again to be able to get the lens focal distance you want. This is the main advantage of the zoom lens.

3. Fix lens

Lens with a very wide focal length starting from 11mm-14mm, the effect of the super wide lens is that you are able to capture photos with a very wide coverage of photos that can reach 126 degrees. 11. Fast Lens

Fast lenses are lenses that have very large openings ranging from f / 1.2 -f / 2.8, in fact there are some special lenses that reach f / 0.75 openings. Because with this very large aperture capability, the lens can receive far more light so you can use a much faster shutter speed so you don’t have to sacrifice ISO to get the fast shutter speed.

12. Slow Lens

The lens is categorized as slow if the opening it has is not too large so that the shutter speed that can be used also follows the aperture. Examples of kit lenses include slow lenses because the maximum aperture is only at f / 3.5-5.6.

You sometimes need to raise the ISO to be able to get photos with a fairly fast shutter speed, but this is certainly not a problem if you take pictures using slow speeds and using a tripod.
